Norit Americas, Inc Background Norit Americas, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Norit N.V. of the Netherlands, a world leader in purification technologies since 1918. Norit has two chemical plants in the United States and five in Europe. GP MaTe was initially installed in the Oklahoma plant in 1994 when it belonged to Elf Atochem. The plant was transferred to Norit in 1996. Running the latest release of GP MaTe, the Oklahoma and Texas plants use the product for inventory control, plant maintenance, upkeep and preventative maintenance of equipment, requisitioning and purchasing of all plant supplies, and some of its personnel features. Challenge Purchasing Agent John Key, who makes nearly 3,000 purchases annually to support a plant that manufactures about 27 million pounds of activated carbon per year, faces numerous challenges in his position. They include working on more than 900 pieces of equipment and processes using a structure priority system, maintaining inventory levels while trying to reduce costs, and monitoring the historical value of purchases and equipment. Solution GP MaTe helps Key support the plant by accurately maintaining a current parts inventory and keeping a precise history of about 23,000 purchases, 48,000 work orders, 17,500 requisitions, and 6,500 inventory items. Other GP MaTe features that have helped Key meet the challenges of his position include scheduling equipment repairs and documenting the repairs history. “We have never tried to put a monetary valve to the benefits of GP MaTe and they, to us anyway, have been immeasurable,” Key says. “GP MaTe has fit our needs to a T.” Key adds that the GP Solutions’ product support is a priceless asset. “The staff has been very helpful every time I’ve needed help.
