Mueller Industries, Inc Background Mueller Industries, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of small parts, including high quality copper and brass products. Mueller’s operations are located throughout the United States and in Canada, Mexico and Great Britain. GP MaTe is the product of choice at three Mueller manufacturing plants in Michigan. Project Engineer Howard Ferguson reviewed numerous computerized maintenance management software products before choosing GP MaTe for the brass mill and forging facility in 1992. “The GP MaTe salesperson that called on me was by far the best,” Ferguson says. “He had the most knowledge about his product and was able to introduce me to the trial software better than the competition and it only took one brief visit. I was very impressed by this. I was also impressed by the ease of discussing customizations with the GP MaTe service people at the time.” Since then, the company has rolled out GP MaTe to two other plants. The plants use the product for planned corrective and preventative work orders on facilities and manufacturing equipment, control of maintenance parts inventory and production supplies, and purchasing maintenance and production supplies. Purchasing information is downloaded from GP MaTe and updated into the company’s accounting software. The Timesaving Advantage Ferguson—who is responsible for plant engineering, capital projects, facility and equipment maintenance, and managing GP MaTe—has found GP MaTe’s timesaving features to be a great asset. “Both purchasing and engineering functions require less manpower than in the past,” he says. “The information look-up functions of GP MaTe allow me to be much more efficient at my job. We did not have a planned PM program prior to GP MaTe, but I could not imagine a PM program without GP MaTe.” Another timesaver for Ferguson is retrieving information, since all plant engineering drawings and literature are automatically recorded using the documents library. Custom reports are also used frequently for gathering purchasing information for the corporate office. “GP MaTe’s reporting functions have saved time, and the type of data we can retrieve has been very beneficial,” he says. “I am convinced that GP Mate is the best product for our needs,” Ferguson adds. “With the purchase of the last two sites, I believe that local management agrees.
