General Electric: El Paso Energy’s Linden Cogeneration Plant
Background
GP Solutions’ initial relationship with what is now General Electric’s operations and maintenance (O&M) business started in 1991 with Stewart and Stevenson (S&S). S&S selected GP MaTesoftware as its corporate standard for computerized maintenance management system support in the early 1990s to support their O&M business. When General Electric acquired S&S, this relationship continued into the GE O&M market. Today, GP MaTe is used in more than 80 percent of all GE O&M business to satisfy their contractual requirements for power plant operations.

GP MaTe was originally selected for its ability to support all requirements for maintenance management and inventory control and for its ease of use. Typically, GP MaTe can be configured, populated with data, user trained, and fully operational in less than three months. For new power plants, this time frame can be further compressed by automated conversions of equipment and inventory information from vendor data.

Spotlight on El Paso Energy’s Linden Cogeneration Plant
The Linden Cogeneration Plant is the largest of three facilities in New Jersey owned by El Paso Energy. General Electric took over the operations and maintenance contracts of all three plants in 1997. The Linden plant supplies 900-megawatts of electrical power to utilities and produces processed steam to its steam host.

A 60-person team operates and maintains hundreds of pieces of equipment. GE Maintenance Manager Walter Zacharewich uses GP MaTe for three basic functions at the Linden plant: maintenance management, warehouse inventory and accounting.

"The product keeps track of the maintenance we do on the equipment, along with the hours and costs," Zacharewich says. "Everything needs to be documented today and GP MaTe helps us do that. It helps us meet environmental requirements and manufacturers’ recommendations, and documents our state inspections. It gives us the historical documentation needed to make educated and cost-effective solutions in the future."

Zacharewich adds, "The system works really well. I can navigate easily and find whatever I need. We have on-site training with the core group and we train other people in the plant, but GP MaTe is Windows-driven and it’s really not hard to use."
